Research abstract
As the DOD continues to integrateáanalytics and AI applications, continued shortages of trained and skilled resource available to support the development, deployment, and operations of advanced analytics and AI/ML applications.AI/ML Applications currently developed and available to DOD environments utilizes many common open-source capabilities that have been hardened and packaged for DOD environments. However the majority of these capabilities are built using general purpose models that do incorporate Explainable AI(XAI) or provide trustworthy answers that can be used in mission-critical situations.As a result of the limited trained resources and AI/ML capabilities that produce Explainable and Trustworthy AI, the DOD usage of AI/ML applications and models has been limited to specific use cases, with limited mission specific capabilities.áá
