Research abstract

Hand held applications (apps), such as those run on Android and iPhone devices, have the possibility of revolutionizing military training by increasing the availability and engagement of training material. Training on relatively inexpensive mobile devices is inherently available to users – they can easily take it everywhere they go. Another advantage of mobile training devices is that they are well-suited to delivering game-based training which holds the promise of improving user engagement. We propose to create a general framework for deploying Android training apps for military applications. The framework will be able to make use of existing content for efficient and effective use of resources and will leverage intelligent tutoring system technology to provide stand-alone instruction.
