Research abstract

The volume and complexity of information available to decision makers by modern information technology presents both unprecedented challenges and great opportunities. Unfortunately, many information technologies intended to assist military decision-makers acquire, filter, manage, and integrate information do not alleviate their information burden; they add to it. To be effective, modern military C2 requires coordinated communication, collaboration, and information exchange among various forces, services, and coalition partners involved. Unfortunately, many information technologies deployed to assist decision makers are unable to understand users' information and knowledge requirements. Consequently, much of the information they provide does not meet the requirements of the tasks being performed. The resulting is delayed delivery and lack of information assimilation, understanding, and decision-making. This project proposes an innovative, intelligent approach to information processing that holds much promise for meeting these challenges, thereby affording new opportunities for improved knowledge management, situation awareness, and decision-making. The final products of this work will be, a functioning prototype iaC tool at C6F running on the secure networks of that facility, and a technical report describing the work conducted, the model, algorithms, system architecture, and displays developed, and appropriate metrics for measuring information flow, speed of command, and anticipated impact of proposed technologies.
