Research abstract

Lasers are ubiquitous in the modern battlespace and pose an increasing threat to pilots. The current solution is for occupants to don laser eye protection (LEP) eyewear. However, eyewear solutions can also be cumbersome and interfere with other head-worn gear, and don’t provide protection for other occupants if they have damaged/missing equipment or simply just choose not to wear them. Eclipse Energy Systems, Inc. (Eclipse) will leverage recent LEP contract work between Eclipse and the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) to remove the burden of LEP protection from individual air crewmembers by providing a retrofit LEP window solution.
