Research abstract

In support of advancing future missile defense capabilities, SpaceWorks proposes to perform an expansive analysis-of-alternatives (AOA) to determine the feasibility and performance benefits of implementing scramjet technology to missile interceptor upper stages. The AOA will encompass multiple propulsion technologies such as scramjets, augmentors, and specialized propellants. Trajectory optimizations will be performed to accomplish range extention maneuvers, and specific Mach and altitude profiles for engagement analysis. Prototype hardware systems will be designed, fabricated, and tested as technology maturation activities for the highest performing technologies identified in the AOA results.
