Research abstract

The Navy is tasked with more operations than it can perform while still building the next generation of ships. Therefore, every expense counts. To reduce costs in future ships, Cellular Materials International, Inc. and SPARK Engineering propose an innovative series of aluminum-based joining systems that will significantly reduce the labor involved in installation when compared to welding. The joining systems will avoid fusion welding and the inherent weaknesses associated with Heat Affected Zones (HAZs).
