Research abstract

VBASE® Oil Company is developing a high-performance, high-efficiency synthetic gear lubricant designed to surpass SAE J2360+ standards. This research builds upon VBASE’s patented Secondary Polyol Ester™ (SPE®) base oil technology, which delivers superior lubricity, oxidative stability, and low-temperature performance compared to conventional synthetic and petroleum-based alternatives. These advantages translate into enhanced fuel economy, reduced maintenance, and extended equipment life, addressing critical operational needs for the U.S. Army. This program will focus on formulating and validating two viscosity grades of SPE®-based gear oils to meet SAE J2360+ requirements. Key efforts include tribological testing, thermal and oxidative stability analysis, and extreme pressure additive compatibility. The gear oils will undergo rigorous field trials to demonstrate real-world performance improvements.By delivering a next-generation, high-performance, and sustainable gear lubricant, this project directly supports the Army’s objectives to reduce fuel consumption, improve vehicle reliability, and minimize sustainment costs. Additionally, VBASE’s innovative approach positions it as a leader in high-efficiency, high-performance base oils and lubricants, creating a significant opportunity in automotive and industrial lubrication applications.
