Research abstract

It is proposed to develop and build a prototype system of active magnetic shielding for superconductor electronics packaged on commercial closed-cycle cryocoolers. In this system, the residual magnetic fields inside passive mu-metal shields protecting the heart of the electronics - the superconductor digital integrated circuits and multi-chip modules will be measured by magnetic field sensors based on superconducting quantum interference filters. The sensors will in turn provide the feedback to control electronics to actively compensate the fields acting on superconductor electronics circuits. This active magnetic shielding should significantly improve the fidelity and performance of superconductor electronic systems as well as reduce the system cost and weight.
