Research abstract

This SBIR effort improves the realism and accuracy of the MUOS propagation channel models by closely tying the propagation model parameters to each terminal’s specific geographic location, its associated terrestrial environment and the ionospheric conditions. In addition, this effort developed of a new method for the rapid estimation of UHF communications performance. Phase I developed the improved channel modeling methods and conceived of a new UHF SATCOM Campaign Planning tool. Phase II will prototype the key portions for the UHF SATCOM Planner including prototypes of the improved channel models, and it will document the requirements needed for a full-scale development to be undertaken in Phase III.
