Research abstract

This effort is going to facilitate modernization of the Army wireless network by providing a modular, cost-effective platform that will provide the warfighter with a secure communication system emphasizing anti-jam, low probability of interception/detection (LPI/LPD) properties. The project builds upon the technologies developed during the initial Generic xG Modular SDR Reference Platform (GxG) SBIR Phase II project. The GxG project has developed and demonstrated a portable, modular, signal processing component that permits Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Multiple-In, Multiple-Out (MIMO) Open Radio Access Network (Open-RAN) radio units to interoperate with an Army Modular Open Radio Architecture (MORA) Software-Defined Radio (SDR) system. Having demonstrated feasibility in prior efforts, this new effort aims to refine the system prototype, while significantly reducing Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) per radio. The project will culminate in an end-to-end TRL-7 demonstration proving the capability of improved MIMO interference resilience, and LPI/LPD, that could be utilized across all next-generation Government radio applications.
