Research abstract

R-DEX Systems (R-DEX) proposes to build on the successful Phase II to mature theĀTactical Radio Experimentation (T-REX) Suite, an innovative open hardware architecture for software defined radios (SDRs) that facilitates the decoupling of hardware and software-based waveforms to improve the development, deployment, and sustainment of tactical radio waveforms.ĀThe decoupling of the HW/SW accelerates/improves the development, deployment, and sustainment of tactical radio waveforms, enabling third party waveform developers to easily develop and integrate new waveforms to a radio platform. T-REX accomplishes this by abstracting the firmware and software. By abstracting the firmware from the software, T-REX facilitates a develop once, deploy across many paradigm for tactical radio platforms, allowing IP (firmware and software) developed on one set of hardware (possibly low-cost radio hardware) to be directly copied (rather than ported) to the objective radio hardware.ĀThis project will result in a standardized, open architecture, non-proprietary platform that may be configured to adapt various waveforms, frequency bands, bandwidths, and modes of operation, thereby providing a clear entry point into the ArmyÆs SDR value chain for the entire product lifecycle.
