Rib Stiffened CMC Panels

Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) will demonstrate a manufacturing approach to produce rib stiffened panels, PSI will build each component using our baseline PSC-10 carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide ceramic matrix composite (CMC). This program will demonstrate PSI’s ability to build and process components of complex geometry using 3D tooling and expansive molding technology. PSI will demonstrate that the assembly procedure can be mated with PSI’s prepreg tape braiding capability that is ideally suited to produce the skin for bodies of revolution. The combined structure will demonstrate the potential to construct stiffened CMC vehicle skins in future production efforts. We will demonstrate the ability to add 3D reinforcements to complex geometry parts to improve their mechanical performance and that completed CMC components can be delivered in under 30 calendar days, by optimizing their CMC conversion process to demonstrate high rate production.
