Research abstract

Agiltron will develop and produce a low-cost and rugged yet highly accurate Portable Missile Miss-Distance Identification System (PMMDIS). The PMMDIS will be based on Agiltrons field-tested, low-cost uncooled photomechanical infrared imaging technology, the only technology to demonstrate high-frame rate (up to 1000 fps) imaging in an uncooled infrared camera, a domain that is usually reserved for cryogenically cooled infrared cameras. Thus by offering both high frame rates and trouble-free setup in the field, our PMMDIS solution will provide, for the first time, an autonomous system to meet the Air Force performance and operational requirements for missile miss-distance systems. BENEFITS: Advanced thermal camera technologies will play increasing roles in future military systems. Thermal cameras are the key component for military surveillance, night vision, target identification, and countermeasures. The proposed PMMDIS system represents a major technology breakthrough, facilitating wide use of thermal cameras in military applications. In particular, the proposed novel approach will find immediate use in C-MANPADS and other missile countermeasures programs, and LTF&E weapons platform survivability and weapons lethality programs. Other military applications of the PMMDIS system include ground-based missile approach warning systems with suppression of false alarms, naval surveillance and threat warning systems, and tactical air-to-ground sensors. Targeted DoD end user agencies include the Air Force, Army, Navy, and MDA.
