Research abstract

The CPP program will accomplish three major technical objectives: (1) explore the system engineering interfaces required to integrate the Mixed-initiative Interaction Module (MIIM) with Navy-targeted operational unmanned vehicle (UV) management platforms, including the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) and other forward-deployed platforms such as the 11m rigid hull inflatable boat (RIB) targeted by ONR’s Unmanned Cooperative Cueing and Intervention (UC2I) Future Naval Capability (FNC) program; (2) implement the required interfaces to support deployment of the MIIM on board such platforms; and (3) augment the MIIM’s capabilities for C2 of UVs with intelligent automated target recognition (ATR) software on board managed UVs to support advanced automation of mine reconnaissance activities in the littoral environment. The proposed CPP program also has two major programmatic objectives: (1) injection of the resultant MIIM and ATR capabilities into experimental platforms for demonstration and evaluation; and (2) advanced human-in-the-loop evaluation of the resulting impact on operator workload within the context of existing technology demonstration events targeted towards transition of advanced UV C2 capabilities throughout the Navy.
