Research abstract

This proposal describes the architecture of mICE – a mobile Integrated Clinical Environment that interconnects medical-electrical (ME) equipment in field environments to provide safety interlocks, closed-loop control in critical situations, decision support, and the ability to manage multiple patients in a multi-casualty environment. The core of the mICE architecture is the decision model and data mining engine, which together comprise the ICE Supervisor. The decision model receives sensor signals in real-time, applies evidence-based medical protocols, and generates automatic actions and decision support guidelines to support patient health maintenance. The offline data mining engine evaluates medical cases recorded in the field to identify new medically-relevant interventions and predictive sensor features. The Supervisor is supported by a Signal Processing and Command Generation Box that uses independent, programmable ports to convert raw data to meaningful events, and a set of field programmable smart cables, that convert non-standard ME equipment signals to the emerging ICE standard.
