Research abstract

Propagation Research Associates, Inc., (PRA) proposes to develop an Electronic Protection (EP) capability for ground based radar that will mitigate both coherent and noise jammers. For the Phase II effort, PRA proposes to develop a combination of waveforms and beamforming techniques that will mitigate coherent repeater jamming. The purpose of Phase II is two-fold –1) to fabricate and demonstrate low cost, effective Electronic Attack (EA) repeater jammer hardware that will degrade the performance of proposed ground based counter-target acquisition radars and 2) to demonstrate EP techniques that will mitigate these low cost jammer technologies. For Phase II, PRA proposes to build coherent jammers that will demonstrate the effectiveness of a low cost electronic attack (EA) technology that uses commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components. PRA will focus the development of EP techniques applied to the Firefinder EQ-36 radar using the Multi-Mission Radar (MMR) Advanced Technology Objective (ATO) prototype system as a test bed but will also demonstrate high bandwidth waveform diverse techniques via simulation for future upgrades. PRA will demonstrate a suite of EP techniques that can either be implemented into the EQ-36 radar with slight modification or can be implemented in future radars that are designed with these EP techniques in mind.
