Research abstract

Propagation Research Associates, Inc., (PRA) proposes to implement a Multi-Static Data Link that can perform navigation and data-link communications to support indirect fires.Ā Indirect fires navigation requires knowledge of the interceptor dynamic states and target dynamic states in an inertial frame at the platform that is executing fire control.Ā Since the fire control platform may not be performing search and track to locate targets over the entire network field of regard, a communication link will be required to provide the target cueing information to a fire control platform in order to facilitate navigation.Ā In addition, multiple fire control modes may be required to ōhandoverö interceptor assets from one node to another.Ā Thus, a network of fire control nodes that are synchronized or cohered to a designated primary node can be implemented to effect indirect fire navigation.Ā PRA proposes to use its Multi-Function Data Link (MFDL) technology developed for US Navy NSWC-DD as a Multi-Static Data Link for indirect fires.Ā The output of Phase I will result in a study that will show the effectiveness of implementing a network of MFDL nodes to support indirect fires for land-based and sea-based applications.
