Research abstract

This Phase II project will develop a system for the perioperative management of head trauma patients that is compliant with the proposed Integrated Clinical Environment (ICE) standard. Device interoperability will be implemented using a microprocessor-based adapter that translates communication protocols of specific legacy medical devices into a standard protocol readable by an open-source API. The adapter and API will be developed in this project. Key parts of the system will be developed in conjunction with a range of stakeholders and will become public knowledge that can be used to further develop ICE as an international standard. Integration of the system into government (VA) and combat environments will be performed.
