Research abstract

Triton Systems, Inc. proposes to develop an autonomous, self-powering, biomimetic sonobuoy. This buoy will incorporate state of the art energy scavenging techniques, innovative station keeping and buoyancy control mechanisms, and low power electronics to create a stealthy, long endurance sonobuoy. The buoy is designed for extended usage as a node in a sensor network. In Phase I, Trion evaluated and down-selected multiple subsystem components based on their size, efficiency, and power requirements. In Phase II, Triton’s team plans to refine the component systems explored in Phase I and integrate them into a functioning buoy prototype. The prototype buoy’s performance will then be evaluated in multiple environments.
