Research abstract

Razor Technologies proposes to develop and demonstrate a total hypergolic propellant (both fuel & oxidizer) leak detection system. Long life, small, low power consumption, inexpensive, conducting polymer sensors for the measurement of fuel and oxidizer concentrations have been successfully demonstrated in Phase I of this project. The proposed Phase II research will further optimize and refine the sensor production parameters (both fuel & oxidizer sensors) to improve performance and reduce sensor to sensor variability. The research will also investigate possible effects of interferent gases, measure mean time to failure, and determine the shelf and operational life of both sensors. Electronic circuitry will be developed and demonstrated that measures concentration of the fuel and oxidizer, rate of change in concentrations as well as integrated values of total fuel and oxidizer detected in the missile canister. During normal storage conditions, the system will monitor and record environmental parameters and fuel and oxidizer concentrations in the missile storage canister on a specified time interval. A proprietary, ultra-low power motion detection circuit will be used to determine when the missile is undergoing transport and initiate continuous monitoring of critical parameters indicative of a leak.
