Research abstract

Technical Abstract (SBIR Proposal)This SBIR Phase II proposal develops an AI-driven Adaptive Mixed Reality (MR) training platform to enhance tactical readiness, decision-making, and operational effectiveness for the Air Force Security Forces Center (AFSFC). Unlike static training, this system employs real-time AI-driven scenario evolution, dynamically adjusting mission parameters, adversary tactics, and environmental conditions based on trainee performance. This ensures a personalized, continuously evolving training experience, addressing instructor shortages, inconsistent standards, and resource constraints affecting 38,000 Total Force Defenders.Technical Approach & Key InnovationsThe proposed solution integrates M4 and M18 replica weapons with realistic recoil, precise ammunition tracking (±2 rounds per magazine), and configurable malfunction simulation to create a highly immersive, responsive MR training environment. The system features:AI-Driven Adaptability – Scenario adjustments scale dynamically based on user performance.Scenario Persistence – Past decisions influence future training, reinforcing long-term skill retention.Instructor-Controlled Training Customization – A tablet-based interface enables real-time modifications and performance tracking.Multi-Environment Scalability – Designed for indoor, outdoor, and mobile deployments to ensure consistent effectiveness.Phase I feasibility testing with the 375th Security Forces Squadron confirmed synchronization of physical weapon interactions with MR scenarios at ?50ms latency while enhancing realism and tactical engagement.Expected Outcomes & Phase III TransitionThis system improves decision-making speed, stress adaptability, and mission effectiveness, directly supporting AFIMSC’s strategic plan (LOE 1) and the Secretary of the Air Force’s Operational Imperative Number 7. Upon Phase II completion, the solution will transition to Phase III commercialization through:Air Force Enterprise-Wide Deployment – Transitioning to a Program of Record (PoR) with AFSFC for DoD-wide implementation.Expansion into Other DoD Branches & Foreign Military Sales (FMS) – Targeting Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and NATO/allied forces.Law Enforcement & Private Sector Adoption – Expanding to federal, state, and local agencies (FBI, DHS, ATF) and private security. With strong government and commercial interest, this AI-driven MR training system is positioned to redefine tactical training, enhance force readiness, and drive adoption across defense and security sectors.
