Research abstract

With the advent of the CCATTs a need exists for monitoring not only the vital sign information generated by a Propaq monitor but for additional hemodynamic and neurologic data to complement the Propaq data, especially in the event that the patient becomes destabilized during transport. Following the successful development of a hand held prototype Aeromedical Evacuation Acoustic Resuscitation Monitor (AE ARM) in Phase I that was demonstrated capable of monitoring peripheral arteries relative to the carotid as well as neurologic function through a direct monitoring of cerebral perfusion, Active Signal proposes to develop an advanced version of an AE ARM in Phase II. The proposed system will have a more robust Tablet PC platform with modified software to include alerts and virtuously continuous monitoring capability. It will have an additional noise immune broad band stethoscope monitoring capability that has been demonstrated to operate in the highest noise environments as well as generate unique physiological information from patients in distress due to its broad band capability. We will test the new system on 100 patients in the R Adams Shock Trauma Center and after analyzing the data reconfigure the system into a final functioning system suitable for use by CCATTs.
