Research abstract

The Air Force is developing a revolutionary new airborne, staring-mode, continuous-dwell radar system that is expected to yield novel 3D imaging and mapping products and low-cost, all-weather targeting and mapping capabilities. Realizing the promise of this new sensor requires a new generation of processing and exploitation algorithms conceived and optimized for 3D SAR from sparse-aperture measurements. Under the Phase I of this effort we demonstrated the utility of physics-driven constrained sparse inverses for statistically consistent reconstructions that the physical interpretability of attributed scatterers with the “plug-in” convenience of non-parametric regularized inverse algorithms. In Phase II we will develop an algorithm test bed and analysis tools for exploring constrained sparse inverse algorithms for 3D SAR reconstruction.
