Research abstract
In order to provide better control of existing manipulator arms, Open Tech proposes to develop software for the Automatic Calibration and Intuitive Control of Manipulator Arms (from here on referred to as the AIMs System). The purpose of the AIMs System is to provide simulation, visualization, and advanced kinematic software tools that are reusable between manipulator arms that vary in complexity and configuration. The AIMs system will calibrate itself to a new manipulator arm, so the system could be rapidly deployed on new hardware with little or no manual configuration. As a result, the AIMs System could be used to enhance a multitude of existing unmanned manipulator arm-based systems. The AIMs system would provide manipulator arm operators with: spatial awareness of the arm, haptic feedback, natural and intuitive controls, and adaptive learning algorithms for repeating common tasks.
