Research abstract
RF SAW, Inc. has developed and demonstrated a new and totally passive RFID concept based on Surface Wave Device technology. The key innovation is a new modulation methodology that results in a much higher data capacity, large dynamic range. and a reader that provides tag ID, range to the tag, and the temperature of the tag with every read. Since the RFID tag does not use semiconductor IC's, there is no threshold requirement for reading, and the power required from the reader is very small ( 20 feet. The Radically lower power for the Global SAW Tag reader system (Model 501) demonstrated HERO certification requirements with zero stand-off distance in preliminary testing. The SBIR Phase I program will develop prototype tags and a reader system for evaluation of tags for shipboard operations. The study tasks include optimization of reader and tag configurations for shipboard operations. These studies will form a basis for the shipboard testing to be done in the Phase II Program.
