Research abstract

Coherent Logix, Incorporated (CLX) proposes an Adaptive Low-Power Anti-Jam (ALPAJ) digital processor for handheld GPS receivers for high-reliability navigation and positioning. The goal is a single integrated circuit digital signal processor (DSP) consuming under 600mW for AJ digital processing of 2-4 antenna channels with military code bandwidth. The necessary functions include adaptive directional nulling and adaptive frequency excision. Update rates will adapt to minimize power use. The processor may be embedded in handheld receivers and remain in low-leakage mode until needed. This effort is supported by a much larger program at CLX to develop a line of extremely high-performance per watt, programmable and reconfigurable (on-the-fly) DSP chips based on its patent-pending HyperX architecture. Utilizing a reconfigurable DSP for signal processing provides ALPAJ the flexibility to use a variety of algorithms under development for anti-jam, multipath suppression, beam forming, antenna array orientation compensation, and power conservation. In Phase I, CLX will adapt existing Simulink, MATLAB, and “C” software models to perform the necessary anti-jam functions under adaptive low-power control, and verify that phase distortion is acceptably small for precise positioning. In Phase II, CLX will design, build, and test a functional prototype ALPAJ using a HyperX processor chip.
