Research abstract

JRM Technologies, and its team member SAIC, DEMACO propose to develop an innovative new approach for fast, high-fidelity active RF Synthetic Scene Generation ideally suited for bi-static transmitter/multiple-receiver scenarios. The Phase I effort will refine an algorithmic approach for a comprehensive new Xpatch scatter center technology -- called Universal Scatter Center Sets (USCSs) -- that define the complete arbitrary RF response of an object to any arbitrary transmitter stimulus in arbitrary receiver directions as a function of frequency, phase and polarization. Thus, self-contained “RF transfer functions” for 3D scene objects like buildings, trees, bridges, ground and air vehicles can be quickly assimilated to represent complex cluttered 3D tactical scenes for which the composite, coupled RF response may be quickly and accurately synthesized. The Phase I effort will design a complete RF scene generation system around the USCS concept, supporting fast imaging simulation of coherent sensed observables. A successful Phase II prototype would allow RF scene generation of complex scenes in the order of hours or days instead of months required by current legacy approaches, better supporting advanced research in the area of active RF imaging techniques in support of the next generation of short-range, high-resolution, high-speed fuzes.
