Next Generation Architecture for Night Vision Imaging

ISC, working in conjunction with Intevac and R3Logic proposes to develop a three-dimensional module for a digital night vision imaging system that overcomes the limitations of existing I2 tubes. The proposed solution will incorporate a low-light sensor, image processor, microdisplay, support electronics and optics within a small form-factor. The inclusion of digital signal processing will enable enhancement of the night vision imagery beyond what can currently be achieved with an I2 tube system. As the system must be incorporated into a very restricted form-factor this can only be enabled by using a three-dimensional packaging technology that allows the integration of multiple, heterogeneous integrated circuits in to a high-density stack that possesses all the benefits of a monolithic device. The proposed device will be capable of imaging under extremely low-light conditions, and of enhancing imagery for optimal display and usability. This phase will culminate in the production and test of SXGA NGANVI prototype modules.
