Research abstract

Triton Systems, Inc. proposes a durable, lightweight, deployable cargo deck covering system for the Joint Maritime Assault Connector (JMAC) and Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) that will protect the cargo and the craft’s propulsors from foreign object damage. In Phase I, Triton will demonstrate the feasibility of advanced materials and structural solution for a cargo deck covering system. Various design concepts will be investigated and performance goals and metrics established to analyze the feasibility of the proposed solution. Closed-form calculations, structural analysis, and computational modeling will be performed to select the basic form of the cover, sizing and structural capability of the deck cover. A test and evaluation plan will be developed that contains discrete milestones for product development for verifying performance and suitability. The composite material approach for the cargo deck cover will meet the Navy’s need for environmentally-friendly and durable materials that reduce life-cycle costs through reduced weight and increased service life.
