Research abstract

This effort will develop a full-scale prototype Payload Interface Master Module (PIMM) which supports multiple functions aboard small/tactical UAVs. This includes, but is not limited to sending, receiving, converting, and managing digital analog video and audio, and cross-queuing multiple sensor systems driven by user-programmed event thresholds. Transmitted information includes streaming video (MPEG), still frame images (JPEG/MJPEG), other binary, text, META or sensor data over the embedded Internet Protocol (IP) based Line of Site (LOS) (>= 10 miles) and Beyond Line off Site (BLOS) communication paths. PIMM will allow for 100% growth for future upgrades. Additionally, PIMM will support data in a common format for display on existing and fielded tactical display processors. PIMM will provide the capability to interface with up to three (3) sensors via commercial standard Input/Output ports and accept direct current power inputs, and will remotely receive and process payload command and control messages over commercial standard IP based multicasting LOS and point to point BLOS communication paths.
