Research abstract

In ACCAST Phase I, ISX and CMU jointly examined the issues involved in the command and control of unmanned, autonomous vehicles and ground sensors, and the technology approaches available to address those issues. Based on the knowledge gained from that effort, ISX and CMU propose to build a software system for Advanced Command and Control for Autonomous System Teams (ACCAST) Phase II. The proposed system will combine two components identified in Phase I as being suitable for the problem at hand: a distributed robotic command and control system from CMU (Machinetta), and an intelligent bandwidth management technology from ISX (DAIDS). This overall solution will be further refined based on the results of the Phase I research to address any identified weaknesses. All unmanned assets – UAVs, UGVs, UGSs and UMs – will be addressed, and integration into FCS at the end of the project will be an identified goal.
