Research abstract

The development of a gas permeable membrane with an O2 permeability coefficient (Dk) of > 2000 Barrers and carbonate permeability coefficient of 500 Wh/kg. The membrane could also be useful in hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells, metal-air battery cells and oxygen sensing devices. The principal Phase I objective is to synthesize materials and to demonstrate the enhanced oxygen transport ability of the membrane while retarding carbonate and moisture transport. They membrane will be free of pinholes and has adequate mechanical properties to be useful in thicknesses as low as 25 micrometers.
