Research abstract

Dragonfly Pictures Inc. (DPI) has been developing, vertical take off and landing (VTOL), unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for the past 14 years and has a record of excellence within the UAS industry. In response to the requirement for a UAS to carry the LSTAT DPI recommends the DP-5XT. The DP-5XT is a tandem rotor VTOL UAS that has been developed in response to the Future Combat Systems (FCS) UAS Class III requirements. DPI leveraged the technology for the design of the DP-5XT from the successful DP-5X program. The DP-5X is a DARPA funded, fully autonomous VTOL UAS. DPI proposes to complete the following five tasks as the Phase I work on the LSTAT project: 1) DPI will develop CONOPS that articulate a vision for a VTOL UAS delivering an LSTAT that integrates the vision of the USAMRMC, DARPA, and SOF. 2)DPI will define the functional requirements based on the concept of operations from Task I, FCS Class III requirements, requirements of the autonomy system, and the LSTAT User Guide, DPI will derive requirements and constraints for the UAS designers. 3) DPI will also identify key enabling technologies to meet the system requirements identified in Task II and then develop a technology plan. 4) DPI will develop a specific concept design that will provide a solution to meet the requirements for a Phase 2 demonstration. 5)DPI will identify design drivers for a universal payload interface to the LSTAT system providing the capability to readily integrate the LSTAT into a variety of emerging automated platforms enabling them to function as a UAS Combat Medic, flying the LSTAT mission. DPI will determine candidate UAS platforms (Army, Marine, Commercial, and future platforms) that may function as UAS Combat Medics. For the candidate platforms, DPI will assess published platform information and available data from platform providers with which DPI has access (e.g., Boeing – Vertol, DARPA, FCS, Piasecki Aircraft Corporation, Northrop Grumman) and generate a comparison matrix of the systems.
