Research abstract

PercepTek, Inc. proposes the development of the Autonomous Medical Resupply and Evacuation Collaborative System (AMRECS), an unmanned rotorcraft with autonomous takeoff, navigation, and landing capabilities that will act as a robotic team member in military medical resupply and evacuation operations. The AMRECS will communicate with the combat medic using a variety of methods, including voice and gestures, which allows operations under a wide range of battlefield conditions. In Phase I, PercepTek will design a Phase II system that autonomously delivers an LSTAT and other medical supplies to an Echelon I location, and retrieves an LSTAT with a casualty to an Echelon II medical facility. For its baseline design, PercepTek has selected the Boeing Unmanned Little Bird, one of the only VTOL aircraft capable of carrying a large payload (3100 pounds). The Boeing Company has agreed to support PercepTek’s Phase I design effort. The baseline system design presented in this proposal is drawn from a wide range of previous projects, including PercepTek’s Army-funded Unmanned Autonomous Collaborative Operations program and a number of PercepTek’s previous and ongoing perception, navigation, surveillance, 3D modeling, and unmanned vehicle programs. PercepTek’s subcontractor, AFDD, brings expertise in automated takeoff and landing as well as sensing and navigation.
