Research abstract

Current base and force protection vulnerability assessments tools are limited in their ability to a) prioritize prevention, detection, and mitigation options based on adversary intent and defense objectives, b) share results between different sites and support new (rapid) force protection training as personnel rotate, c) reuse past analyses and keep adversary data, defender data and the resulting analyses fresh, and d) quickly accomplish an initial analysis and subsequent reanalysis. This program's objective is to develop and deploy an easy to use, repeatable, metrics-based vulnerability assessment tool supporting diverse infrastructures, dependencies, and evolving threats to improve military base security, and ultimately overall troop security. This will be accomplished by reducing the cognitive workload necessary to conduct assessments through the application of automated reasoning techniques by developing 'drop in' technologies compatible with multiple assessment methods without requiring major doctrine rework and retraining. This reduces the downstream acceptance barrier, since current approaches and doctrine will be enhanced, rather than replaced. Based on Phase I SBIR results, Phase II will develop the first products of what will become a suite of tools collectively called EVALFASTER (Enhanced Vulnerability Assessment Loop For Any Strategic or Tactical EnviRonment).
