Research abstract

The food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the responsible agency for ensuring the safety our nation’s blood supply. CBER with the Public Heath Service (PHS) identifies potential errors or threats to blood safety through developing adequate technical standards to implement zero risk transmission of infectious disease. Blood donors are asked very specific and direct questions about multiple risk factors and the answers must be carefully documented and filed appropriately. The current system at all blood facilities keep individual files that correspond to a particular time of donation and when the same donor is reevaluated for next blood donation eligibility a new file is created and data is filed separately. There is no system to evaluate the continuity of donor’s data with multiple blood donations over the time. To solve the problem, a secure web interfaces to a new database is proposed. The new database contains all donor information by unique donors, and the database is connected to an internet web interface. The SSL enabled internet web provides easy data access from anywhere, and the SSL offers secure data transmission. Using web with SSL ensures communication security and maximizes global data access.
