Research abstract

In this SBIR program, Morton Photonics will design, fabricate and test novel microresonator devices for use in practical RF phase shift applications. These devices will provide fast (microsecond) tunability with low power dissipation, and go beyond simple group delay characteristics to address the finite bandwidth of the signals in practical RF applications. The devices will support large-scale photonic integration so that complex subsystems can be developed using this novel technology. In addition, this program will develop sub-system designs to provide RF phase control for a number of RF signals, as would be required in a phased array antenna or a general multiple-antenna device, and show the feasibility of this approach.
