Research abstract

Williams-Pyro proposes to develop an AccuTag Miniature Surveillance and Tracking System (Accu-MiSTS). Accu-MiSTS employs cluster management techniques and ad-hoc networking to provide a readily scalable architecture with which to perform comprehensive surveillance. A cluster is comprised of one supernode and up to 65,536 nodes, all of which are within the communication range of at least one other node. All supernodes are capable of communicating with at least one main control unit (MCU). Multiple MCUs may be securely networked through the Internet using DoD security standards. During Phase I, we will determine whether using the standard Zigbee protocol within the 2.4GHz band or a proprietary 433MHz communication protocol will provide the most reliable, robust, and efficient communication network within a cluster. Supernodes will communicate with the MCU via 802.11, WiMAX, or, if available, 802.3 (Ethernet).
