Research abstract

TPL Inc. proposes to develop a modular man-portable wall breaching system that will be able to defeat rebar reinforced concrete wall structures more efficiently than Current State-of-the-Art military wall breaching methods. The TPL design will be based on utilizing Tantalum as the liner material in linear shaped charge (LSC) sections that can be snapped together to provide variable geometry access holes through the concrete targets. Tantalum has the ductility and density to provide a jet capable of cutting through the rebar encased in the concrete. Each LSC section will be 30” in length and can be coupled with corner fixtures or straight joiner fixtures to provide a 30” x 30” square configuration or a 30” x 60” man-way configuration. Upon affixing the initiation system this unit is then ready to be deployed. The corner fixtures provide legs that maintain the proper standoff-to-target for the linear shaped charge as well as an adhesive backed pad for affixing to the target. Percussive fasteners can also be used through the pads for a more rigorous bond to the target.
