Research abstract

Toyon proposes to develop a dynamic sensor tasking module (DSTM) for AESA radars that explicitly considers mission objectives when selecting sensor tasks. We will employ a finite-horizon feedback approach where we plan tasks for a specified time interval and then replan once that interval has expired, using new information that we have collected about the battlespace. Our approach will take into consideration ownship survivability, the engagement of targets, the search for undiscovered targets, and the prevention of fratricide. We have developed a dynamic sensor tasking module in support of the Joint Strike Fighter program that we plan to leverage for this effort. The key new work that will be done in Phase I of this effort will involve the formulation, integration, and evaluation of a new objective function. We will use a Toyon-developed simulation called TADSim to evaluate the performance of the new objective function. We will analyze the performance of the DSTM with the new objective function using scenarios that we are currently using to support JSF, or, we will use scenarios supplied by the Navy. To model the radar, we will use our current JSF radar model, or, we will use a model specified or provided by the Navy.
