Research abstract

The Artificial Intelligence Reinforcements (AIR) is developing AI-driven tactical autonomy for multi-ship, beyond-visual-range (BVR) air combat missions. A critical challenge lies in addressing the complexities of real-world operations, including sensor integration, scaling for large-scale missions, dynamic open-world environments, and training predictive models that account for uncertainty, deception, and adversarial conditions. To overcome these hurdles, the AIR initiative combines emerging and maturing algorithmic techniques with insights from human experts to accelerate the development of cooperative autonomous behaviors. On this effort Toyon Research Corporation's will extend the Modular Autonomy Incubator (MAUI) framework to support the AIR program. The proposed solution integrates advanced autonomy evaluation capabilities, enabling automated scoring of AI models during competition events. This integration enhances the government's ability to conduct objective evaluations of performer teams, facilitating effective down-select decisions. The streamlined approach ensures efficient and frequent performance assessments, optimizing return on investment and fostering continuous innovation in autonomous capabilities. The AIR program's advancements aim to revolutionize air combat by developing distributed, adaptive, and resilient autonomous systems, marking a significant leap in military technology.
