Research abstract

This SBIR effort focuses on developing an innovative Multiple Purpose Cost Evaluation System (MPCES) that will enable the evaluation “costs impacts” of a design and assembly process for system optimization of missile systems. The research team includes Prof. Bao from Old Dominion University and Raytheon Missile Systems. The core of MPCES consists of the following components (i) Integrated cost modeling library (ii) A flexible XML-based interface for integration with legacy performance optimization tools (iii) Plug and playable cost modeling framework (iv) Web-service enabled and Fast-time distributed computation. The feasibility of our approach has been demonstrated in our phase I efforts to date, including a comprehensive survey of existing cost models and their applicability to missile systems, the design of overall system architecture, and an initial prototyping of the software. The phase II effort will expand on our Phase I effort. Specific tasks will include development of the ontology for missile applications with a flexible interface to external systems, further enhancements of the cost libraries, implementation of a web services-based service oriented architecture to interface with vendor systems, and development and deployment of MPCES tailored to meet the requirements of ARMDEC for missile development and manufacturing.
