Research abstract

In this Phase I SBIR, we propose to develop a Digital Radio-Frequency Memory (DRFM) architecture to enable more accurate, flexible and programmable electronic countermeasures (ECM) features. We will improve pulse acquisition with a channelized receiver featuring multiple high-dynamic-range analog/digital converters and a programmable switch matrix, and a quantum accurate digital/analog converter with the option to include predistortion for more realistic re-radiated pulse conversion. We also propose a novel method of modulating the Doppler signature at RF using an integrated current-controlled oscillator. Rather than focusing on more advanced pulse processing techniques, we will enable these techniques to be developed separately. In other words, the proposed front end and back-end hardware will enable the DRFM processor to better be able to produce multiple-threat responses using techniques such as Range Gate Stealer, Velocity Gate Stealer, as well as other more advanced techniques. BENEFITS: Success in the skies depends on being able to deceive the enemy on one's whereabouts. The DRFM technology to be developed under this SBIR will more accurately digitize incoming pulses, channelize separate threats, and more intelligently produce more realistic and deceptive pulse responses. Major parts of the technology are commercializable for digital-RF communications.
