Research abstract

The objective of the Phase II program is to mature a novel concept for Temperature Sensitive Paint (TSP) into a viable prototype for use in hypersonic wind tunnel model applications that will replace the current TSP products used in hypersonic wind tunnel testing at AEDC. The solution will address current weaknesses (toxicity, thermal cycling, thermal resolution and stability) without sacrificing existing performance. The Phase II effort will result in a prototype that meets the requirements for thermal sensitivity, thermal stability, ease of use, repeat usage (thermal cycling), and ease of removal with no toxic byproducts. A system will be developed which will include both the material solution and the metrology for reading the signal. The merits of the candidate solution will allow it to be matured further into a viable commercial product to be made available to a variety of customers and applications.
