Research abstract

Skin temperature measurements are vital to the design process in a number of fields, including aerospace and automotive design. Temperature sensitive paints (TSPs) are often used in these applications, with general success, but unfortunately most commercial temperature sensitive paints do not work above about 200 C, and thermal paints are also not environmentally safe. IPITEK proposes to use unique materials and techniques to solve these problems, and to develop a TSP that can give a good absolute measurement of temperature with no toxicity issues or low temperature limitation. In this program, we will also draw on the expertise of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which has unique expertise in the area of TSP development.
