Research abstract
Mobilization of corpsmen and other military personnel for missions and operations is a substantial training challenge. Large numbers of medical personnel with varying specialties are rapidly mobilized. Many of these medical personnel are unfamiliar with providing combat casualty care, much less during battle or in locations that are unfamiliar and in highly challenging situations. To increase the effectiveness of trauma management on the battlefield the tri-services are adopting the principles and procedures of tactical combat casualty care (TCCC). Dissemination of the TCCC curriculum requires a training solution that can be delivered electronically or in print, and is usable by warfighters, medical personnel, and combat leaders across the tri-services. To meet this need, Sapien Systems developed an online, prototype Electronic Combat Casualty Care Training (ECCCT) system. ECCCT is an innovative, distributed Computer/Web Based Training (CBT/WBT) system which delivers TCCC training through the integration of conceptual, procedural, and case-based instruction. The prototype has received excellent reviews from training and subject matter experts. During Phase 2, Sapien Systems proposes the development of a complete ECCCT system that will provide accurate and engaging TCCC training for warfighters, medical personnel, and combat leaders across the tri-services and is delivered via internet, CDROM or printable manual.
