Research abstract

The objective of this SBIR is to develop a persistent illumination source as a replacement for tritium in small arms weapons sights and illuminating clusters. The research team will leverage the success of earlier technical work, Low Light Level Illumination for E-2C Propellers (Phase II), and refine the paint system currently under development for the unique application of the weapons sights. We will explore the use of powder-coating as well. Our team includes experts in photoluminescent technology (the technology we will use) and a weapons expert to guide with the specifics of weapons design and application. Our solution will be safe (non-toxic, non-radioactive), will require no external power, will be highly effective and will eliminate all of the problems associated with Tritium sights.
