Research abstract

STEED is a DoDAF-compliant work-centered support system covering satellite operations squadrons and air operations centers and the communication between them. Phase I developed a structured approach to developing cognitive architectures that will be extended and mapped to the DoDAF architecture. Integration of DoDAF and cognitive architectures and incorporation in a work-centered support system brings a unique contribution to counterspace operations support. SRA’s Master Caution Panel (MCP) toolkit will be integrated with new STEED components to monitor system health, status, and other parameters. Unique network-centric team communication and awareness tools will enable different STEED users (ops squadrons, space Air Operations Center (AOC), etc.) to share critical information more effectively. An innovative knowledge base and mission-alerting system will detect anomalies and data trends across time periods (operations shifts, days, weeks, etc.). A multi-purpose operations portal will provide single point of access and control of real-time situational awareness and satellite operations information. Software will be developed using industry standards like J2EE and XML. In addition, our approach includes provisions for integrating with other AF systems like Theater Battle Management Core System (TBMCS), Theater Battle Operations Net-centric Environment (TBONE), Combatant Commanders Integrated Command and Control System (CCIC2S), and the Air Force Space Control Network.
