Research abstract

The focus of this program is to develop, fabricate, and test MMIC 100mW and 2W Q-Band power amplifiers with high efficieny and low cost. Two problems exist with MMIC power amplifiers. The user communitiy has stated that the low efficiency of power amplifiers that runs in the 10 to 20% range coupled with the high cost has limited the development of phased array systems. On this program, the power amplifiers will have an efficiency that is greater than 35% and will have a recurring cost that is much less than $100. With the development of these low cost Q-Band power amplifiers, phased array systems can be affordable.
