Research abstract

We propose an innovative yet pragmatic approach to the matching of information warfare requirements to solutions. The proposed system concept, Resolve, will be fashioned from an eclectic set of proven technologies with the goal of both improving search precision and recall, and dramatically reducing the effort required to find matching solutions. Resolve will exploit a unique capability to extract requirement and solution descriptive terminology from solution documents (e.g., white papers, proposals, briefings) that, through a series of processing steps, can fuel the largely autonomous expansion and refinement of search vocabularies. These vocabularies will then be used to facilitate a need-centered query generation and result ranking process that mediates between a user’s query and the body of indexed solutions, thereby mitigating the terminology mismatch problem. Further, Resolve’s context-enhanced search process will exploit user feedback and pseudo-feedback to autonomously refine the search vocabulary and tune its queries in order to scour a topical search space - reducing the need for countless query reformulations. In this Phase II we will build on the strong foundation established in Phase I to construct and field our new technology for matching Information operations needs with solutions and proceed toward successful commercialization.
